The Mt. Carmel uses a different format from most invitationals by having runners run against runners of their respective high school classes (freshmen against freshmen,, sophomores against sophomores, etc.).  The meet is split into two divisions with the smaller schools (including San Marino) in Division 2.  Following is the race schedule for Division 2:

A Note From Liz Barraza (Trip Organizer)

 Dear Cross Country Parents,

As many of you know, the SMHS cross-country team takes a “road trip” early in the season each year. The primary purpose of this trip is more about promoting a positive team spirit and less about intense competition. This year’s trip will be to San Diego to run in the Mt. Carmel Invitational on Saturday, September 21, 2013.

We will depart from SMHS at 9:00am on Friday, September 20, 2013. This early departure time allows the runners to run the course on Friday in the late morning/early afternoon. It is NOT mandatory for a runner to run the course prior to Saturday’s meet. If you do not wish to have your runner dismissed from school that early, you are welcome to drive him/her to San Diego yourself at a more convenient time, or you can arrange for your runner to ride with another family who will also leave later in the day. A third option, if you do not want you or your runner to stay overnight in San Diego on Friday, is to drive down yourself on Saturday morning. The first race starts at 8:30am. The complete race schedule is attached. We are a Division 2 school.

A block of hotel rooms with two (2) queen beds has been reserved for the team and parents at the DoubleTree Hotel in San Diego from Friday, September 20, 2013 to Saturday, September 21, 2013. The group rate is $115.00 per room (plus tax and fees) and includes up to four (4) Full American Breakfast buffet vouchers per room, per day. Each voucher is valued at $15.00. Vouchers will be provided upon check-in.

Teammates will be housed together up to four to a room. I will provide the hotel with a rooming list for the runners’ reservations. Parents interested in staying overnight with the group must make their own reservation directly with the DoubleTree by calling (800) 486-5315. PLEASE BE SURE TO MENTION THAT YOU ARE WITH THE SAN MARINO TITANS PARENTS’ GROUP-MT. CARMEL. Parent room reservations must be paid directly to the hotel by the parent. If you would like to stay an extra night in San Diego, the hotel will honor our group rate for three (3) days before and three (3) days after Friday, September 20, 2013, based on room and rate availability.

In order to guarantee that parents receive our group rate for an individual room reservation, your reservation must be made directly with the hotel by no later than Wednesday, August 21, 2013. If a parent/individual room reservation is made after this date, our group rate and room availability cannot be guaranteed. Any cancellation or adjustment to a parent reservation may be made up to 24 hours prior to arrival without penalty. If an individual reservation fails to cancel in time, his/her credit card will be charged for the first night’s room and tax.

Check-in time at the DoubleTree Hotel is 3:00pm and check-out time is 12:00noon. The hotel information is:

The DoubleTree by Hilton

1515 Hotel Circle South

San Diego, CA 92108

(619) 881-6900

A team dinner will be held Friday evening at the DoubleTree Hotel at 6:30pm. Parents (families) are welcome to join the team for this event as well. The cost for the dinner will be $12.00 per person (plus tax and gratuity) including soft drinks.

If your runner would like to participate in this year’s road trip, kindly send a check to Coach Mundo made payable to SMHS in the amount of $48.00 (per person cost of hotel room including tax and team dinner including tax and gratuity). Kindly reference “Mt. Carmel XC” in the memo portion of your check. Payment is due to Coach Mundo by no later than Thursday, July 11, 2013.

Please let me know by email if your runner will be leaving at the 9:00am departure time on Friday. My email address is: barraza.liz@gmail.com. If you are able to volunteer to drive the runners to San Diego at this time, please let me know that too. If you prefer to have your runner leave at a later time, please let me know what that time is, if you will drive your runner yourself and, if so, if you can accommodate any other runners, or if your runner will need a ride from someone else.

Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Hope to see you in San Diego!!
