Rosemead Invitational
September 8, 2017, Rosemead High

The Titans launched their 2017 season at the Rosemead Invite on September 8.  Olivia Ruiz had a strong start to the season, taking 2nd place in the Junior girls race in a time of 19:02 (which was the 5th fastest girls’ time across all races and the top time from a Rio Hondo League athlete.)  Purvaja Balaji took 10th place in the Sophomore girls race in 20:40.  Juliana Judge finished 65th in the Junior race, coming through in 22:47.  Freshmen Karen Lee (23:24, 32nd) and Lily Tong (23:32, 37th) rounded out the top five times for the Lady Titans.

Tom Moffat led the guys with a 17:23 34th place finish in the Senior boys race.  Right on his heels time-wise was Sean Chen who finished 17:27 for 15th place in the Junior boys race.  Joseph Weber had a 18:02 finish in the same Junior race and placed 30th.  The fourth and fifth fastest guys were seniors Alex Powers (18:14, 55th) and Jonathan Chen (18:54, 69th).

Comparing times with 2016 and checking for progress is tough because the 2017 course is longer than the 2.93 miles run last year.  However, it does look like the young Titan squad will have their work cut out for them in Rio Hondo League since both La Canada and Temple City beat the Titans by pretty wide margins in the Rosemead races where the teams went head to head.  We’ll know more on the 21st.
