Michael Mundo makes a statement

It was an early season road trip and the mood was light until Saturday morning.  Come race time, sophomore Michael Mundo was all business as he ripped through the 2.95 mile race course in a time of 17:09, good for 12th place in a field of 230 fellow sophomores down in San Diego.  More notably, Michael had the 3rd fastest time on the team, trailing only brother George (16:45) and senior Drew Jack (16:47).

Yes, DJ.  Soph MnM may be your State ticket.  And, maybe Derrick could be an alternate.  Look at how tight this team was even though they were in 3 separate races:

This just keeps getting better and better.  And two strong displacers for good measure.  If this continues on to the end of the season, we are looking at the best Titan men’s team in 20 years!

CIF-SS competitor, Xavier Prep, managed to outrun our boys on Saturday by 38 seconds (total cumulative team time difference).  Although a small difference, we can probably expect the Rankman to swap our positions in the Week 4 rankings due out on Wednesday.  It is becoming apparent that these are two closely matched teams.  Should be a great CIF matchup.

Girls Fight 2 Southern Section Competitors

Three of the top 10 rated teams in the Southern Section met down in San Diego on Saturday and the results will probably jumble next week’s rankings.  Sixth-ranked San Marino took on #4 La Reina and #9 Xavier Prep and the bottom team came out on top. Powered by a senior and two juniors, Xavier easily beat La Reina and San Marino.  The Titans were without their #4 (senior Veronica Mejia) and perhaps La Reina was missing key runners, as well.  Nonetheless, it demonstrated how critical the #4 and #5 spots are to the success of a team.

Freshman Alejandra Larriva-Latt and sophomore Fiona Harrigian figure to be critical to the Titan’s chances in CIF.  Can either one run with the varsity team pack by the end of the season?  Or, could it be Angela Wang or Kelly McCrary or Carlin Koch?
