Coach Mundo was recruited by one of the team’s parents (Steve Knott) and brought an elevated sense of expectations to the job. But, this was a young team and, as is apparent from the photo, a fun team. So, they had to adjust to each other. The Coach and the team compromised and discovered a great middle ground that combined the best of both worlds. This team had several upper classmen that were characters and several that were serious hard workers. The real underlying story of this team, though, were the underclassmen who would set the team on a path to consecutive CIF Finals appearances in subsequent years. The girls’ varsity came very close to making CIF but lost out on total season points to the three Division 3 schools in the Rio Hondo League. However, Nicole Miller (the hardest worker on the entire team) did make CIF on her own. The guys were consistently 4th in league as they simply did not have the maturity to beat the bigger Div 3 schools in the league. But, this was a close team and they scored big on the fun scale.
