2001 Season

Double CIF Appearance Caps Henson’s 2nd Season

Varsity Girls - The girls had a very strong summer, which built the base for a strong season that saw them make the CIF Finals for the first time since the 1994 team. They withstood injuries and illness but came together at the end of the season. They took second at League Finals and 9th in the CIF Finals. The only race at Lacy Park was the Phil Ryan, the very first race of the year. Katherine Morris was the top SM girl with a time of 20:04, just missing the “under 20” cut. But, it was sophomore Betsy Yen who was the team owner of Mt. SAC, recording a 19:57 in the CIF Prelims. Betsy doubled as she was also a member of the tennis team. First year runner.

Varsity Men - Hampered by injuries, which prevented them from improving, the guys placed 3rd at League Finals and 11th at CIF Prelims. The core runners ran well during summer but the lack of depth hurt the team as the injuries hit. Brandon Linz had the fastest Lacy Park time at 17:40, run early in the season at the Phil Ryan Invitational. Linz also recorded the team’s fastest Mt. SAC time of 17:31, recorded at the Invitational in October.
