Rio Hondo League Meet 2 was held at Crescenta Valley Park due to the continued closure of Lacy Park. Running the same challenging course as League #1 three weeks prior gives a sense for athlete progress, and there were quite a few Titan personal or season bests for the CV Park course.
In the Varsity Boys race, the trio of Xavier Beck (17:21), Eric Lew (17:22) and Charlie Perry (17:26) again exhibited excellent pack running and came through the finish at 4th, 5th and 6th place. Each improved by over 20 seconds off their League Meet #1 times. The Titan men’s team took second place, with Cav Jue (18:50, 21st) improving by 14 seconds and Patricio Osegueda (18:55, 23rd) rounding out the five scoring runners. The team’s 59 points matched their total at League 1 exactly, so looking forward to League Finals it appears that closing the 27 point gap on South Pas will come down to how well the #4 and #5 scoring runners do.
In the Varsity Girls race, Olivia Harrigian (19:33, 2nd) continued her comeback from injury. She and twin sister Fiona Harrigian (21:14, 10th) each took over 20 seconds off their League Meet 1 times. Freshman Olivia Ruiz had a breakout race, dropping 46 seconds off her previous time and finishing at 21:21 in 12th place. Newcomer Evelyn Tran also took 31 seconds off her Meet 1 time (21:27, 13th). Angela Wang (21:28, 14th) was the final scoring Titan lady. Looking ahead to League Finals, improving on the team 3rd place finishes in the first two league meets will come down to whether the #2 to #5 runners (which are now separated by less than 20 seconds) can improve another 20-30 seconds and challenge the pack of La Canada and South Pas girls grouped ahead of them. Most of the LC/SP athletes in 4th through 9th place posted times 10-plus seconds slower than League Meet 1.
In the JV Girls race, Juliana Judge (22:35, 6th) and Meg Hannan (23:22, 10th) each improved by over 20 seconds on the CV Course. In the Frosh-Soph Boys race the Titans took 3rd place in the team rankings, led by Tom Moffat (19:44, 10th) and followed by Bill Li (19:50, 12th), Josh Rose (19:59, 14th - a 16 second drop), Jonathan Chen (20:06, 15th) and Tim Wong (20:14, 19th - a drop of over a minute!) in the scoring positions. Auberon Lai dropped 26 seconds (20:30, 22nd), and Joseph Weber (21:06, 28th), Tobiah Abravanel (21:08, 29th) and Alex Powers (21:09, 30th) each took over 30 seconds off their League Meet 1 times.
