With Lacy Park reopening after eleven weeks of construction only days before League Finals, the Titans had one opportunity to practice on the home course this season. Being back at Lacy Park on a perfect fall day for running, both the boys and girls varsity teams qualified for CIF Prelims in Riverside. Since the boys will lose three members of varsity to graduation and the girls four, it was also good to see several underclassmen perform well.
The Varsity Boys team placed second with 57 points, and every runner had a Lacy personal best (most dropping their previous times by over 30 seconds). As they had done all season, the top three of Xavier Beck (16:45, 3rd), Eric Lew (16:52, 5th) and Charlie Perry (17:12, 10th) finished in the top 10. Alex Lai must love Lacy (he won JV in 2014), because he had a season breakout performance as the Titans’ 4th scorer (17:46, 20th). Cav Jue dropped his previous Lacy time by over a minute and was the 5th Titan finisher (17:49, 21st). Patricio Osegueda (17:56, 23rd) helped by coming in ahead of La Canada’s 5th scorer, and Grant Holt also had a PR (18:26, 26th).
The Varsity Girls came in 3rd place with 58 points against La Canada (ranked 9th in CIF-SS D4) and South Pasadena (ranked 13th in CIF-SS D3). Olivia Harrigian (19:22, 4th) led the Titan girls. Freshman Olivia Ruiz appears well positioned to keep a Titan named Olivia in the Rio Hondo top 10 in future seasons by running an excellent 20:08 to take 9th place. Angela Wang dropped a 35 second Lacy PR to finish 12th in 20:22, followed by Fiona Harrigian (20:30 PR, 15th), and Evelyn Tran (20:59, 18th) - even though she lost a shoe heading into the finish. Carlin Koch (21:16, 19th) and Kat Chen (21:41 PR, 21st) were the non-scoring runners. The girls have struggled a bit this season, but have an opportunity at CIF to pull together a complete team effort.
In JV Boys, Kyle McCall put together one of his best races of the season to finish with 19:31 (13th), a drop of 34 seconds off his prior Lacy best. Ethan Deshaies finished 26th in 21:04.
The JV Girls placed third in team competition, paced by freshman Juliana Judge’s 6th place finish in 21:02 (6th fastest Titan girl of the day). Freshman Meg Hannan finished at 22:09 in 11th, and Erin Wei had a Lacy PR of 22:39 to finish 18th. Cara Roberts (23:10, 24th) and Ecca Hu (26:12, 58th) rounded out the Titan scorers. Juliana and Meg look well positioned to join the Varsity squad in 2016.
The Frosh-Soph Boys team really stepped up for League Finals and took second place with 63 points (after coming in third both prior League meets). Tom Moffat led the team, taking over a minute off his Lacy best to finish 18:29 in 7th place. Freshman Bill Li was a second behind in 8th (18:30), and Tim Wong also took over a minute off his PR in finishing 11th in 18:47. Jonathan Chen (19:11 PR, 19th) and Auberon Lai (19:12, 20th) were the remaining scorers. Freshmen Joseph Weber (19:27, 22nd) and Josh Rose (19:32, 24th) were close behind.
