The Titans head to Hahamonga Park for Rio Hondo League Meet 2 on Thursday, October 16 - with races scheduled to start with JV Boys at 3:15, followed by JV Girls at 3:45, Varsity Men 4:15, Varsity Girls 4:45 and Frosh-Soph Boys at 5:15. The Hahamonga course is a relatively flat out and back loop which begins and ends in Oak Grove Park across the street from La Canada High School (see .pdf of map HERE). Not a great spectator course unless you bring your bike. Conditions should be good with weather predicted to be in the mid-70s at the beginning of the meet.
The Men’s Varsity squad will be looking to repeat their win from League Meet 1. They went head-to-head with La Canada at Staub on October 4 and narrowly won by 9 points and a combined 13 seconds. La Canada’s 5th place runner fell heading into the stretch, so it could have been even closer. John and Girish had good races at Crystal and will look to challenge La Canada’s Ethan-Ethan duo as well as South Pas’ Cullen Irvine for top spots. South Pas went to Clovis on the 11th and Cullen ran the 5K in 17:36, with 3 teammates in the low 18 minute range, Looks like the team scores will come down to how well the 3-4-5 runners do. Hahamonga is on La Canada’s front doorstep, so they know this course well.
The Girl’s Varsity squad comes off a 3rd place finish at League Meet 1 and competed again with La Canada’s tough team at Staub, where the Spartans took the top 2 spots and had 4 runners in the top 10 to take the team win to the Lady Titans’ 3rd place. South Pasadena’s girls competed at Clovis and Emily Yee led their team with a 20:25 5K. Sarah has consistently challenged La Canada’s top duo, and Angela had her best race of the season at Crystal. It is uncertain who will be running Varsity, but Coach Mundo has some added firepower at his disposal with Kelly and Alejandra having their best races of the season at Crystal also, and with Olivia, Fiona and Sana expected to participate while coming back off illness and injury. A team win for the Titans will be a challenge while the team continues to re-build, but the race will be a good test to see where they stand heading into SAC and League Finals.
The Boy’s Frosh-Soph team placed 3rd at League 1, with Grant and Kyle being the lone top 10 finishers for the Titans against deep teams from South Pas and La Canada. The Boys continue to improve, with Timothy stepping up at both Staub and Crystal. The Boys run as a relatively tight pack, so as they continue to learn to race will likely drag one another to even better individual performances. La Canada and South Pas runners will provide a good mid-season challenge.
