In any other year, a freshman breaking 21 minutes in an early season race like Carlin Koch did would be a headliner. Carlin picked a tough year to be a freshman. Freshman Olivia Harrigian is resetting the freshman standard. On a hot September morning in Dana Hills, Olivia nearly broke 19 minutes. Sophomore Sarah Linton did all she could to keep pace and, as a result, nearly broke 20 minutes. In essence, three girls under 20 minutes.
How long before all three are under 20 minutes at Lacy Park? The course differential between Dana Hills and Lacy is about a minute so these girls are within a minute and a half combined time of an impressive feat. I’ll have to take a look at the record books to see how long it has been but, more than likely, it has been 20 years.
At 20:45, Carlin is a solid #4 scorer but we will need another girl to run with Carlin. The gap back to Marina is a minute and another 20 seconds after that to the sophomore pack. Someone will need to break out of that group and join Carlin. Who will it be???
