Running as an individual, Xavier Beck closed out the Titan cross country season by running a solid 16:47 and placing 41st amongst the best of Division 4 in CIF-Southern Section. He came by sub-5 at the mile, a little fast for SAC. For most runners it looked like Mt SAC times were about 20 seconds slower than those posted at Riverside the week before. Xavier was a great addition to the team this year and is positioned to lead the team alongside Eric Lew next year -- the CIF experience will help. Congratulations Xavier for a fine season! Xavier Beck Qualifies for CIF Finals as Individual |
|||||||||||||
CIF-Southern Section Prelims were held this year at the Riverside Cross Country Course (the first time in many decades the meet was held at a venue other than Mt. SAC.) The three mile layout is relatively flat and should have been an opportunity for fast times, but the soft soil made footing tricky. For the Titans the performances were mixed, with several athletes improving on League Finals times at Lacy but the majority running slightly slower. The result was that neither team qualified for CIF Finals -- the boys coming in 10th in their heat and the girls 11th (with two heats in Division 4, the top 8 teams in each proceed to CIF Finals). The highlight of the day was Xavier Beck’s outstanding 15:46 time, a 59 second drop from his time at Lacy the prior week, which put him in 11th place and qualified for CIF Finals as an individual. For the Boys, the next athletes to finish after Xavier were Charlie Perry (16:38, 43rd) and Eric Lew (16:38, 44th) in a virtual tie -- with Charlie dropping 34 seconds and Eric dropping 14 seconds off their League Finals times. Alex Lai continued his end of season improvement as the Titans’ fourth finisher (17:46, 91st). Cav Jue was the final scorer (17:53, 97th), followed by Patricio Osegueda (18:00, 101st) and Grant Holt (18:30, 112th). Alex, Cav, Patricio and Grant were all within 5 seconds of their times at Lacy the previous week. The Girls were led by Olivia Harrigian (19:15, 25th), who had a 10 second improvement from the week before. Carlin Koch had her best race of the season (20:13, 56th), and dropped over a minute from her time at League Finals. The remaining Titan ladies were Olivia Ruiz (20:29, 67th), Angela Wang (20:36, 72nd), Fiona Harrigian (20:45, 78th), Evelyn Tran (21:08, 89th), and Kat Chen (21:32, 104th). |
