The Titans competed in a new meet for them, the 34th annual Central Park Invitational in “Surf City” Huntington Beach. The meet attracted teams from Arizona, Nevada as well as CIF-Southern Section. To avoid conflicts with the evening Coronation Dance festivities, the team competed in the large schools division in the morning (which required a 6:15 am bus departure). Running with the large schools on a course that had some narrow paths provided good experience on pacing and managing traffic. Athlete reviews of the meet and course were positive, so Central Park might become an annual meet for the team. Too bad SAT testing left out some of the athletes.
In the Varsity Boys race, Eric Lew ran his personal best 3 mile time (all courses) of 16:39 to lead the Titan guys. Eric, Charlie Perry (16:45) and Xavier Beck (16:59) ran in a pack for the majority of the race, and had they been in the “small schools” division all would have been top 10. Cav Jue (17:54) and Patricio Osegueda (17:55) worked well together, and Grant Holt also had a 3 mile PR of 18:13.
Olivia Harrigian led the Varsity Girls, finishing in 19:14, followed by Fiona Harrigian (20:11) and Carlin Koch (20:35) -- all three would have been top 10 times in “small schools” division. Frosh Olivia Ruiz (20:42) continues to impress, and fellow Frosh Juliana Judge had her 3 mile PR (21:15) running in her first Varsity race.
In the Girls Junior Varsity race, Meg Hannan ran well and her 21:33 time would have won the Frosh small schools division race. Ecca Hu dropped her 3 mile PR by almost 45 seconds running 25:29.
In the Boys Junior Varsity race, Tom Moffat had a 3 mile PR of 18:54, and Kyle McCall(19:13) and Tim Wong (19:16) were not far behind. Tobiah Abravanel had a 3 mile PR of 19:52.
Freshman Bill Li continues to improve and his 3 mile PR time of 18:43 was the 7th fastest Titan guy on the day. Josh Rose (19:42) and Joseph Weber (19:43) worked well together through the course (Weber’s time dropped his 3 mile PR by over a minute).
