The Titans ran in the “small schools” division at the Rosemead Invitational. The course is flat, a combination of pavement and grass, and the races were in the cooler evening hours. Running the meet for the second year in a row gave the returning athletes and Coach Angus a chance to check progress. It was good to see many personal best performances. On the boys side, senior Eric Lew dropped over a minute from his 2015 time and came in 6th in the Senior Boys race with a time of 15:44. The junior boys followed up a strong end to the spring track season by showing dramatic improvement over their 2015 Rosemead times. Tom Moffat was the second fastest Titan at the meet, dropping over 2 minutes off his prior year to come in at 16:37 (36th). Timothy Wong and Alex Powers came in at 17:04 and 17:05, respectively, with Tim dropping 2 minutes and Alex dropping 3 minutes off their 2015 times. Grant, Jonathan and Tobiah also had PRs. In the Sophomore boys race, Sean Chen, who was new to running in spring track and so was in his first cross country race, was the third fastest Titan of the evening with a time of 16:58 (18th place). Each of the returning sophomores had course PRs and the sophomore team placed 3rd overall. Newcomer TJ McGovern showed promise running a 17:54 in his first XC race as a Titan and was the 5th scorer for the sophomores, behind Patricio, Josh and Bill.
On the girls side, sophomore Olivia Ruiz had the fastest lady Titan time of the meet with an 18:56 for 6th place. Her time was over a minute and a half faster than her 2015 race. In the same race, both Meg Hannan (19:52) and Juliana Judge (20:13) took over a minute off their 2015 times. They will have to watch out for freshman Purvaja Balaji (younger sister of 2015 Titan grad Girish), who had the second fastest lady Titan time of the meet with a 19:47 to take 9th in the freshman race. Complete race results for each division are below.
