The Titans competed in Rio Hondo Meet 2 at the challenging Crescenta Valley Park course, and many athletes came away with course personal bests. In the Varsity Girls race, Olivia Ruiz grabbed 1st place, shaving over 90 seconds off her previous course best to finish in 19:47. Freshman Purvaja Balaji moved up seven spots from League #1 to finish 4th with an impressive 20:25 her first time on the course. Juliana Judge (17th, 21:40 PR) and Meg Hannan (23rd, 22:31 PR) each took almost a minute off their previous best times. The remaining scorer was Evelyn Tran (22:53, 25th). The Titan ladies matched their Meet #1 result by placing third in the team competition, but second place South Pas expanded its points gap by 13 points. In the JV Girls race, freshman Katie Wong took 5th place in 23:58.
In the Varsity Boys race, the Titans improved their team ranking to third, tying on points with second place La Canada at 71 but losing based on the 6th runner placing. Senior Eric Lew again paced the Titans with a 4th place finish in a personal course best 16:58. Xavier Beck returned and ran 17:54 for 13th place, followed closely by impressive soph Sean Chen who ran 17:56 for 14th (first time on the course). Alex Powers continues to come into his own this season and shaved an amazing two and a half minutes off his previous course best to place 19th in 18:25. Each of the remaining athletes dropped a minute or more off their previous bests also -- Tom Moffat (21st, 18:27 PR), Josh Rose (23rd, 18:33 PR), Tim Wong (25th, 18:37 PR).There are a couple La Canada scoring athletes within 5-10 seconds of the Titans’ 4th-7th runners, so a team second place is achievable if this group can move up.
In the JV Boys race, Joseph Weber grabbed 4th place, shaving over 2 minutes off his previous course best to finish in 19:05. Grant Holt placed 10th in 19:40 and Jonathan Chen placed 11th with a 19:42 PR. San Marino placed second in the team competition with 64 points, just edging La Canada’s 65. In the Frosh-Soph Boys race, soph Bill Li was the top Titan -- placing 13th in a personal best 19:45. Kai Barra was the second Titan finisher at 20:18 in 23rd place. The guys placed 4th again in the team competition, with the race being dominated by South Pas which had a perfect 15 points.
