The rain and thunder made the Rio Hondo Finals meet a little more challenging, especially for the field event athletes, but there were quite a few season and personal best performances (see Season Bests in each event HERE). The Titans took home some medals and have a few athletes headed to CIF competition. CIF qualifiers were: Chuma Azinge, who won both the 110M Hurdles (15.90, PR) and the Triple Jump (43’ 8”); Anson Kwan, who placed 3rd in the Pole Vault (10’ 0”); Jonathan Mak who placed 3rd in the Triple Jump (40’ 3.25”); Fiona Harrigian in the 1600M (5:38.87, PR); Olivia Harrigian, who placed 2nd in the 3200M (11:25.72) and also placed 2nd in the 1600M (5:13.14) but dropped that event for CIF; and the girls 4 x 400M relay team of Keila Barra, Evelyn Tran, Olivia Ruiz and Angela Wang, which took 3rd in a time of 4:15.86. CIF Division 3 Prelims will be at Estancia High in Orange County on May 14.
Varsity medal winners not moving on to CIF were: Charlie Perry, who placed 3rd in the 1600M in a PR 4:39.87 and just missed the CIF qualifying mark by less than a second (he also came back to place 5th in the 3200M with a PR 10:26.70); Kyle McCall, who placed 3rd in the 300M Hurdles in a 44.64 PR but was just off the CIF qualifying mark; and the boys 4 x 100 relay team of Joey Elliott, Brian Byrne, Chuma Azinge, and Quenin Dunkel, which also took 3rd in 45.28 and missed CIF by less 14/100ths of a second.
In the Frosh-Soph competition, Wilson Lin placed 2nd in the 100M and also got another silver medal in the 4 x 100M Relay along with teammates EJ Sung, Andres Mercado, and Thomas Ary. Ary also got a silver medal in the 110M Hurdles with a 16.92 PR. Kobe Oh took second in the Pole Vault with a 10’ 0” effort. Timothy Wong had a PR 2:11.32 to win the 800M. Sean Chen took silver with a PR 4:54.38 in the 1600M and Tom Moffat had a huge 10:51.79 PR (dropping over 20 seconds) in the 3200M to place second -- after also competing in the 1600M earlier. The boys 4 x 400M relay team of Tim Wong, Mark Wong, Kobe Oh, and Ben Ung placed 3rd with a time of 3:49.77. Chloe Leftwich placed 3rd in the girls High Jump with a 4’ 2” effort, and Valerie Wong also placed 3rd with a 5’ 6” vault in girls Pole Vault.
