Other Invites With Limited Titan Participation

Invitationals are important for many reasons, including acclimating athletes to large meet environments, competing against appropriate level competition, and attaining performance marks where fully automated timing or independent officiating create a verifiable record on sites such as Athletic.Net.  Several Titans participated in Invitationals in addition to the two official team meets.  Click on the meet name in the table below to jump to results.

Redondo Invitational
March 11 and 12, 2016

The Redondo Nike Invitational has become a great early season meet, with top competition from throughout southern California and beyond.  This year’s meet was windy and cool, which provided some challenges for the athletes.  Eric Lew had a personal best 4:45 in the Varsity 1600 after leading during a portion of the second lap, and Charlie Perry had a 4:52 in the same race.  Olivia Harrigian was in good position with 5:34 at the 1600 mark of her 3200, but was tripped by a competitor and went down hard -- eventually gritting out a 11:40 after getting back into the race.  Fiona Harrigian competed in the 1600 and Angela Wang in the 800.  Rio Hondo rival South Pas had a large contingent at the meet -- hopefully the Titans can do so in future years.

Arcadia Invitational
April 8 and 9

The Arcadia Invitational has become one of the top high school track meets in the country, along with the Penn Relays in Philadephia and the Mt SAC Relays in Walnut.  Athletes from all over the country are selected to participate based on qualifying performance marks.  It has been a number of years since a Titan was selected, but this year Olivia Harrigian got the opportunity to compete in the Open 3200M race.  She ran an 11:15.42, her best time for 2016, to come in 20th in her race.

Tiger Invitational
South Pasadena - April 8

South Pasadena hosts the Tiger Invitational the same weekend as the Arcadia meet, and many teams with athletes participating in Arcadia also have athletes at the Tiger.  This year was the biggest ever, with 129 schools from throughout California (including all the Rio Hondo League teams), the western US, and even New Zealand, represented.  Unfortunately, the meet fell during spring break and a limited number of Titans were available.  Fiona Harrigian ran in the 1600M and had a PR 5:43.30 performance.  Charlie Perry also ran the 1600M and had a PR of 4:46.66.  Angela Wang also competed in the 800M and got a 2:37.63.
