Coming off of little rest from the meet with Maranatha on Thursday, the Titans came out with good early season performances at Rosemead. On Friday night, the Varsity Girls 4x1600 squad of McCrary, Larriva-Latt, Roberts and Chen got things rolling with a 1st place finish (getting to the meet just in time after yet another missing bus incident!). Soon after, Olivia Harrigian ran away with the Varsity Girls 3000, smashing her own meet and personal record by almost 20 seconds in 10:45. The Varsity Girls Distance Medley team of Wang, Tran, and two Harrigians were next up and won in 13:36, shaving 27 seconds off the Titan winning time at the Rosemead meet in 2014. Not to be outdone, the Varsity guys Distance Medley team of Balaji, Crowley, Liu and Judge also shaved 27 seconds off the 2014 team time in taking 3rd place. Eric Lew blazed the last 200 meters and took 1st in the Frosh-Soph 1500 at 4:34 -- then proceeded to climb the medal podium for some photos by Coach Angus!
The Titans followed a strong Friday night into Saturday and took home a number of top 3 medals. The Frosh-Soph guys 4x100 took 3rd place in 48.53. Senior Chip Crowley came back off a strong 400 leg in the Distance Medley to take home his second gold medal of the meet - winning the individual 400 in a PR of 50:15.
Freshman Chuma Azinge led the great performances by the young field event athletes by taking 1st in the guys Frosh-Soph triple jump with 40’ 8.06” (to put this early season jump in perspective - this distance would have won Frosh-Soph and would have placed him 3rd in Varsity at the Rio Hondo League Finals in 2014. WOW). Not to be outdone, Freshman Jimmy Furst took 3rd place in the Frosh-Soph guys high jump with a 5’ 4” performance (which would have placed him 2nd in Frosh-Soph and 4th in Varsity at 2014 RHL Finals.) The pole vault squad had a number of top 3 performances, including Senior Angeline Wong who took 3rd with a 10’ 0” vault -- matching her 2014 RHL and CIF performance. The impressive Freshman duo of Kobe Oh and Anson Kwan tied for 3rd place in the Frosh-Soph vault with 9’ 6” (which would have placed them in 3rd at RHL finals in 2014).
