San Marino track families will get their first look at the 2013 team on Thursday at SMHS’ track starting at 3:15. At this time, we have only the entries for some of the track events. For those families who have not attended a track meet before, you’ll want to stay around to the end. For that is when the 4x400 relays are run. The freshman-sophomore girls will pit Gabrielle Giangreco, Erin Wei, Zoe Chang and Angela Wang against relay teams from Mark Keppel High and Gabrilino High. Among the early events will be the mile (1600 meters, actually), which is split into 4 divisions. Look for the varsity men to put on a show there with Drew Jack, John Judge and Girish Balaji providing a good show to the finish. The other 800 battle will be the varsity girls, which include speedster Veronica Mejia, CIF Finals athlete Sarah Linton and State Finals athlete Alissa Barraza.. In the middle of the meet will be the 800s, a distance many consider to be the ultimate challenge. Too long for the sprinters, too short for the distance runners. All four 800 races are packed with San Marino athletes, including 7 frosh-soph girls. Freshman Michael Mundo figures to be the most exhausted competitor as he will triple by opening with the 1600, followed by the 800 and wrapping up with the first leg of the boys’ frosh-soph 4x400 relay. There will be some limited video of the meet on this site by Sunday.
