CIF-Southern Section competition was held at the Riverside City Cross Country course, with Prelims for Division 4 on November 11 and Finals on November 18. The Lady Titans had to place 12th or better in their heat in Prelims in order to proceed to Finals and, unfortunately, came up just short in 13th place with 349 points to 12th place Crean Lutheran’s 347. The Titans’ 3:05 gap between their first and 5th scoring runners was too much to overcome. However, standout junior Olivia Ruiz had a great race -- clocking 18:35 on the 3 mile course, which was good for 12th place and an individual qualification for CIF-SS Finals. The other scoring runners were Puja Balaji (19:33, 41st), Lily Tong (21:04, 98th), Meg Hannan (21:39, 108th), and Karen Lee (21:40, 113th). With all runners able to return in 2018, this CIF experience will be a great foundation on which to build.
Running as an individual at CIF Finals, Olivia Ruiz placed 27th overall with a time of 18:56. A bit slower than at Prelims, but the wind and dust really kicked up by the time the Girls D-4 race went off making conditions challenging.
