The Titan CIF qualifiers traveled to Estancia High in Costa Mesa for competition against the best of CIF-SS Division 3. As seems to be typical of the venue, wind was a factor for the athletes on a blustery May Saturday. Junior Chuma Azinge had a personal best 44’ 4.5” in the triple jump (against a 2.8 meters per second wind) to place 3rd overall and qualify for CIF Finals. He also competed in the 110M Hurdles and the 4x100M Relay (with teammates Brian Byrne, Wilson Lin and EJ Sung), but did not move forward to Finals in either event (the 4 meters per second wind in the 110H may have thrown him off). Sophomore Olivia Ruiz is the other CIF Finals qualifier, placing 9th in the tough 800M run with a time of 2:22.31. Ruiz also competed in the 4x400M relay with teammates Puja Balaji, Keila Barra and Evelyn Tran but did not qualify. Junior Anson Kwan had a personal best vault of 12’ 3” in the pole vault, but placed 11th overall and did not qualify for Finals. Brian Byrne also competed in the 400M and had a time of 51.83.
Best wishes for success to Chuma and Olivia at CIF-SS Division 3 Finals.
