The Titans had a bye week with no Rio Hondo dual competition scheduled. Four athletes joined fellow Rio Hondo athletes from Monrovia, South Pas and Temple City in competing against the best athletes from throughout the greater San Gabriel Valley (all CIF division levels) at the annual San Gabriel Valley Championships. It was unseasonably warm (temps in the low 90s) at San Dimas High. Chuma Azinge had another standout day, leaping to 1st place with a 44’ 4” personal best in the triple jump, placing 2nd in the high jump with a solid 5’ 11”, and racing to an 11.48 second personal best in the 100M dash (good for 15th place). Chuma will have some decisions to make as to where to focus his talents heading into RHL Finals and CIF competition. Anson Kwan added an inch to his pole vault personal best, soaring to 11’ 7” and taking 10th place overall. He has the top Rio Hondo league mark looking forward to League Finals and CIF competition. Eric Lew and Patricio Osegueda competed in the 1600M, Eric running 4:42.77 (20th place) in the varsity division and Patricio running 5:12.00 in the frosh-soph division. Eric has the 2nd best Rio Hondo time in the 1600M heading into the end of the season.
Going into Rio Hondo league and CIF, these athletes should benefit from the experience of competing at a championships-style meet.
