Titans vs South Pasadena
April 13, South Pasadena High School

The Varsity Boys were just one point shy of retaining their undefeated Rio Hondo season, but the host South Pas Tigers prevailed 64 to 63.  South Pas has recently been the dominant team in the league and have significantly greater number of athletes, so the Titans’ being that close is pretty impressive.  Chuma Azinge helped the team by winning four events, the 100M in 11.69, the 110M Hurdles in 15.89, the high jump with a 6’ 0” effort and the triple jump with a 42’ 8” leap (a season best for him).  Brian Bryne also added a bunch of points by winning two individual events: the 200M in 23.98 (edging a Tiger by just 4 hundreths, and achieving a personal best time), the 400M in 51.32 (another PR), and helping the Titan 4x400 relay team to a win and the 4x100 relay team to a close second place finish.  Wilson Lin had a productive day, with a 2nd place in the 100M dash (a 11.81 Personal Best), a 3rd place in the 200M (another PR, 24.27 seconds), and contributing to a 2nd place in the 4x100M relay.  Tim Wong grabbed 2nd in the 800M with a 2:11.21 PR and was part of the winning 4x400M relay team.  Eric Lew placed 2nd in the 1600M and 3rd in the 3200M.  Kyle McCall placed 2nd in the 300M hurdles in a season best 45.63.  Anson Kwan and Kobe Oh went 1-2 in the pole vault.

The Varsity girls were missing a few athletes and lost to the much larger lady Tiger squad.  Annie Derrick had a 3rd place finish in the 100M in a PR 13.65 time, Evelyn Tran placed 3rd in the 400M, Olivia Ruiz continued her league dominance in the 800M - winning with a PR 2:25.28, and Puja Balaji appears to be coming into form with a 2nd place in the 800M (PR 2:31.62).  In the distance events, Meg Hanan took 3rd place in the 1600M and Juliana Judge took 3rd in the 3200M.  Sophia Battaglia and Juliana Judge went 2-3 in the pole vault.

In the Frosh-Soph Boys, Nicholas Kim grabbed 3rd in the 100M (12.90 PR), Austin Nguyen won the 400M in a 57.76 personal best, Josh Rose and Joseph Weber went 2-3 in the 3200M (Josh with a season best and Joseph a PR), Jaden Mena and Andy Wang went 2-3 in the 300M hurdles (both with PRs), Charlie Daves grabbed 3rd in the shot put with a PR, Nathan Cheung had a 2nd place in the high jump (also a PR), and Jaden Mena took 3rd in the long jump (another PR).
