The Titan team wound up Rio Hondo competition with 3 boys and 5 girls qualifying for CIF in individual events. Both boys relay squads qualified and the girls 4x400 team did as well. Girls qualifiers were Frosh Mackenzie Dawes (3rd in 100 at 12.84), Junior Olivia Ruiz (3rd in 800 at 2:21.29), pole vaulters Avery Page (1st at 9’ 0”) and Sophia Battaglia (2nd at 8’ 0”), and frosh Karen Lee in the triple jump (3rd, 33’ 5.5”). Ruiz also placed in the top three in the 400M (3rd, 61.02) but scratched the 400 for CIF. On the boys side, Chuma Azinge shone again, earning three individual medals in the high jump (1st at 6’ 2”), 110M Hurdles (2nd, 15.12) and triple jump (2nd, 45’ 2”) and also teaming up to help the Titans place 3rd in the 4x100M relay (43.80). Brian Byrne was also a multiple medal winner, taking 2nd in the 400M (50.29), and teaming up on both the 4x100 and 4x400M relays (on the 4x400 3rd in 3:36.73). Anson Kwan secured another trip to CIF by wining the varsity pole vault (12’ 6”).
The Frosh-Soph boys also grabbed some medals, with the standout on the day being a difficult triple win by Frosh Jonathan Karkafi in the 800M (2:08.39), 1600M (4:45.75) and 3200M (10:49.75) -- wow, about 3.5 miles on the track in one evening! The boys also grabbed 2nd place in both the 4x100 (46.89) and 4x400 (3:46.51) relays.
All of the Titan medal winners are listed below. Varsity athletes that qualified for CIF compeition will head to Estancia High in Orange County for CIF-Division 3 competition on May 12.
