The Titan CIF qualifiers traveled to Estancia High in Costa Mesa for competition against the best of CIF-SS Division 3. As seems to be typical of the venue, wind was a factor for the athletes on a blustery May Saturday. Chuma Azinge had a mark of 44’ 8.5” in the triple jump to place 3rd overall and qualify for CIF Finals. He also qualified for Finals in the 110M hurdles with an 8th place finish in 15.23 seconds. His 6’ 0” jump in the high jump was good for 11th place (out of CIF Finals qualifying). Brian Byrne placed 7th overall in the 400M with a time of 50.40 and punched his ticket for Finals. Byrne and Azinge teamed up on the 4x100 relay with Wilson Lin and Ben Tang, placing 16th in a time of 44.16. Byrne and Tang also came back with Christopher Ko and Jaren Huang on the 4x400 relay, placing 17th overall in 3:35.67. Anson Kwan had a vault of 11’ 9” to place 12th. Olivia Ruiz is the other CIF Finals qualifier, placing 9th in the tough 800M run with a time of 2:20.00. Ruiz also competed in the 4x400M relay with teammates Puja Balaji, Karen Lee and Lily Tong but did not qualify (23rd, 4:20.45). Lee also competed in the triple jump, placing 26th with a 31’ 0.5” mark. Mackenzie Dawes placed 21st in the 100M dash in 12.84. Avery Page had an 8’ 9” vault to place 17th and Sophia Battaglia had a no mark after failing to reach the opening height. Great experience for all the underclassmen competing on the big stage.
Best wishes for success to Chuma, Brian and Olivia at CIF-SS Division 3 Finals.
