The Rosemead Invitational was the first test for the Titans. With daytime temps nearing 100 degrees and high humidity, it was still uncomfortable for the evening races. San Marino competed in the “small schools” division. Races were run by grade and gender, starting with 9th grade girls. The course is relatively flat and quick, with a mix of grass, pavement and artificial surface. There were a number of top 15 finishes, starting with Olivia Ruiz (20:40), Meg Hannan (21:09) and Juliana Judge (21:22) going 10th, 11th, and 12th place, respectively in the girls 9th grade race. Patricio Osegueda followed with a 3rd place finish at 17:30 in the boys 9th grade race -- and led the Frosh to a 2nd place team finish of 148 points. In the Senior girls race, Angela Wang (19:39), Fiona Harrigian (20:00) and Carlin Koch (20:16) took 10th, 13th and 14th place, respectively, and led the 12th grade girls team to an overall 2nd place finish with 51 points (NOTE: it appears that the timers missed a runner in this race and so the official results showed times for the prior runner -- the times presented here are corrected). In the last race of the evening, senior Charlie Perry ran to a 10th place finish in 16:20.
From a team perspective, the top 5 Titan girls times across grades were separated by only 61 seconds. On the guys side, the total is 1:19.
Temple City and the La Canada boys team competed in this meet. Looks like Temple City’s sophomore standout Daniel Ortega continues to excel, running 16:18 in the sophomore boys race. Based on times at this meet, the Temple City boys look ready to challenge for a top 3 Rio Hondo finish and a trip to CIF this year.
