The Titans traveled to San Diego for the Mt. Carmel Invitational in San Diego’s Balboa Park. Thanks to the efforts of Emelyn Judge and other parent volunteers, the transportation, hotel and food worked out perfectly. The trip was a good bonding experience for the team and important preparation for future races.
The girls ran 2.75 miles and the boys ran 2.95 miles, both over primarily grass and dirt (see course maps below) with some elevation changes thrown in. Though a few miles to the beach, it was warm. Running in different races, the top 5 girls times were separated by only 36 seconds (a good sign for future team competition). Led by Fiona Harrigian (18:30, PR) and Carlin Koch (18:33, PR), the senior girls team took 4th place. Kat Chen, who has continued the improvement she saw during track season, was close behind (18:35) and new addition Evelyn Tran continues to impress (18:41). Freshman Olivia Ruiz looks to make an impact for the girls varsity.
For the guys, Charlie Perry led with a 17:30, followed closely by Eric Lew at 17:34. Grant Holt had a good race, breaking into the top 5 Titans with a 19:06. The guys had a 1:40 spread amongst the top 5. The large group of freshman boys continue to gain important racing experience.
