	Heat Check at Bosco Tech! Girls Go 11-13-14-15 in Small Schools and Finish 17th Out of All 52 Teams Seven Guys Break 20 minutes




	Veteran returning runners mixed with promising new talent amp’d up the anticipation as a big turnout of San Marino parents waited to see the first measure of this team. In a meet that will be remembered long after the season is done, the Titan cross country team kicked off the season with stunning performances.

Girls - Running against ranked competition on a fast flat course at Santa Fe Dam, San Marino’s girls surprised most of us by finishing second in the small schools Junior/Senior division. San Marino’s total score of 93 was bettered only by Bishop Montgomery’s score of 82.4-27 finish. And the Frosh/Soph girls also finished second in their small schools division, beaten only by Marlborough (86-97) and slipping past Immaculate Heart (97-100).

As always, senior Danielle Knott led the 11-13-14-15-40 Junior/Senior division near-win with senior Saskia Raether, junior Natalie Sanchez, junior Caitlin Hittner and senior Erinn Lew contributing critical performances. A full summer of work paid off for Lindsay Snaer as she led the Frosh/Soph division to their near-win with freshman Veronica Mejia, sophomore Michelle Dominguez, freshman Alisa Barraza and sophomore Marina Flores contributing to the 9-15-22-24-27 finish.

Guys - The big story for the guys was the first race for freshman An”drew” Jack. Drew placed 17th in the small schools division of the frosh/soph race in a time of 17:55. For a team in desperate need of a 4th and 5th runner to have any shot at CIF, this was a real shot in the arm. Nearly as important, the great junior duo of Moreton and Yuter ran the entire 3 miles together with Robbie having a just a bit more in the final 100 yards. They took 10th and 11th places in the Junior/Senior small schools division in times of 16:25 and 16:28. The 4th best time on the team belonged to junior Daniel Covarrubias (19:21), who is new to the team this year. Another new face is freshman Xavier Kenevan who finished in 19:24. Both Covarrubias and Kenevan figure to compete for that critical 5th varsity spot towards the end of the season. Other contenders include freshman Kenneth Lee (19:37), senior Taylor Beldy (19:49) and freshman Yuvan Wickramasinghe (20:10).

Combined team results - Combining all male runners from all divisions, San Marino ran a team time of 1:29:33, good for 39th place.
